Advanced Speed Settings

In this dialogue box, you can pre-set the actual number of beats per minute, or check the rate of bilateral stimulation after a set.  This would be useful, for example, in studies in which reprocessing conditions are standardized.

In the Speed drop-down box, under Advanced Settings, click in the box entitled Variable Speed to choose variability of speed, or click again, to de-select this option.  (This may also be done by clicking in the box on the program screen.)

If you have chosen variable speed (anti-habituated), you may determine the characteristics of the speed variability as follows:

Maximum Speed Offset % refers to the percentage of the original speed that the set speed will vary.  If you would like a large variation in speed, select a higher number.  For example, if you have the speed set at 60 bpm, and a speed offset percentage of 50%, the actual speed will range from 30 bpm to 90 bpm.

Maximum Speed Delta % refers to the amount that the speed will change in a given pass. If you would like the speed to vary only a small amount at a time, select a low number.  For example, if you have selected your base speed at 50 bpm, with a speed offset percentage of 10%, the speed will range from 45 to 55 bpm.  If you select a delta percentage of 10%; on each pass, the speed could change as much as 1 bpm (10% of the 10 bpm variation).

Tip:  While in certain situations, you may wish to have subtle variation, there may be other times, when a more marked variation is selected.  For example, try using the intermittent path, and high variability with a kid's image on a bright background.
