Tactile Mode Using Audio (Without Tactile Box)

To achieve tactile stimulation without a Neuroport tactile box:

1. Select the beep check box on the main Neurolateral program screen.

2. Click on other.

3. In the Tactile folder, choose one of the tactile sounds. Audio tactile (P) probably works best when you are using pulsers in the audio output, and Audio tactile (H) may work best with headphones. This is a matter of personal preference and also depends on the particular headphones and pulsers you are using, as well as the sound card on your computer.

4. Turn the volume up to maximum (Audio volume slider on the program screen or Main volume in Volume Control window (via a right-click on the task bar volume icon) or by adjusting the slider (via left-click on the task bar speaker icon).

5. Plug either regular stereo headphones or tactile pulsers into the audio output plug on your computer.  If using headphones, instruct the client to hold these lightly.

6. If you would like to use both tactile and auditory bilateral stimulation, you will need a special audio splitter, into which you can plug two devices.  In one, plug in headphones with a built in volume control, so you can lower the volume for your hearing safety, and in the other plug in a second set of headphones (or pulsers), to be held in the hands.

Tips:

If your pulsers generate some heat after prolonged use via the audio output, lower the volume.

The Neuroport Tactile Box was developed to generate a pleasing, strong tactile stimulus, without having to share the audio output of the computer.
